Author Cherie Blair Takes Readers on
Devotional Journey Through the Song of Solomon
GRANDVIEW, Mo., Jan. 23, 2008 – While studying Kansas City International House of Prayer (IHOP) director Mike Bickle’s popular teaching on the Song of Solomon, Cherie Blair set out to help others benefit from turning the Song into devotional prayer just as she had. So, with Bickle’s permission, Blair included her abbreviated version of his extensive notes along with the entire King James Version of the Scripture in “Journey through the Song of Solomon: a devotional” (ISBN 978-0-615-17374-0, $15.99, Uniquedove Creations, http://www.uniquedove.com).
Written with a broad focus that will appeal across Christian denominations, “Journey through the Song of Solomon” presents the Song of Songs, often taught in terms of marriage, from a different perspective — as a passionate love story between the Church and Jesus Christ — and shows readers how to turn the Scripture into their own creative expressions to God. In doing so, Blair says, readers will enter into meaningful conversations with the Lord instead of simply answering questions about the text.
“‘Journey through the Song of Solomon’ is ideal for small groups, whose members can benefit from discussing questions and insights with each other as they work their way through the Song,” said Blair. “It is my hope that readers will discover deeper love for their Savior through understanding that the Song is really His love letter to us.”
Thanks to her own journey through the Song, Blair says, she has discovered the Lord as her eternal Bridegroom. That love has led to a richer prayer life and a better understanding of her own gift of creativity. “I began to write, sing, paint and dance with Divine creativity,” Blair explained. “Delving into the Song in the manner in which ‘Journey through the Song of Solomon’ is written was key to that shift.”
Blair tackled the task of producing the entire book herself, including cover art, content and layout. “Journey through the Song of Solomon” is printed and distributed by Lightning Source and available through major Internet book retailers as well as through http://www.uniquedove.com. Readers wishing for additional help and insight will find a link in the book to order Bickle’s original notes through http://www.ihop.org/shop.
“I am grateful for this book,” writes IHOP staff member Lisa Gottshall in her preface to Blair’s book. “Experiencing the exchange between God’s heart and mine over His Word is the most exhilarating pleasure I have ever known and is available to every believer.”
Audra Close offers a “Closing Word” encouraging readers to “make time to gather oil, to spend time in the secret place with Jesus” on a daily basis as they “continue the journey of discovering the mysteries of God.”
Blair is currently at work on a second book, “Altogether Lovely – The Perfect Man,” based on Song of Solomon 5:8-16, scheduled for release in summer 2008.
